A founding member of the Justice League, Aquaman first appeared in 1941 and is one of DC Comics’ longest running heroes. The son of a banished Atlantean princess and a lighthouse keeper, Arthur Curry soon discovers he isn’t like other children, as he is able to spend indefinite amounts of time underwater. When he reaches adulthood, Arthur goes on a discovery to find his destiny and become the hero Aquaman. Using a host of superpowers along with his indestructible trident, Aquaman has saved his new home Atlantis and the ‘surface’ world from numerous villains, some of the most famous being Black Manta and Aquaman’s own half-brother Orm Marius AKA Ocean Master. Aquaman has seen growth in popularity over recent years thanks to new stories, character design, and Jason Mamoa’s live-action portrayal. A stand-alone Aquaman movie adaptation was released in December 2018.
